Diversity

People from all walks of life, cultures, belief systems, alternative persuasions, etc. need to feel they are in a non-judgmental safe environment to explore the deep underlying issues that bring them to counseling. Good counselors work within the individual’s orientation and see things from their perspective rather than attempting to bring them to their own. A curiosity about all types of people is an attribute that brings many therapists into their field and is maintained throughout their career. A non-judgmental environment is essential to create safety for each client to optimize their therapy experience. A history of feeling discriminated against often leaves people with wounds and sensitivities they may react to without understanding how to push through a sense of victimization to accurate self-perception and actualization.
